Is there a free online voicemail service, that doesn't require buying equipment or fees? Where I can get a phone number, and people can leave me voice messages, and I can access them online. I don't need to be able to call out, I just need a voicemail box basically.

You can use Google Voice for that. Simply sign up, choose a phone number, and give that number to whomever. VoiceCentral provides a convenient way to access your Google Voice account using your iPhone.
